      <image:title>About - Hi, I’m Cindy, LCSW, C-DBT.</image:title>
<image:caption>Sometimes we can use help understanding the causes of our behaviors and learning new ways to make necessary changes in life. I will work on making you feel safe, comfortable and understood while we explore some of these struggles and the potential worries, concerns or feelings about starting and being in therapy. I will ask for feedback during our therapeutic relationship to ensure you feel heard, and that your goals are being addressed. I am also open to making the changes you may feel will help you get the most of therapy. It is through trial and error of trying new things that we often figure out what works for us and facilitates the change needed to accomplish our goals in life. Therapy will help if you are invested in the process, meaning you attend sessions as scheduled, participate in sessions and are open to trying new skills outside of session. By doing things that are difficult in and outside of therapy, you will build mastery or a sense of competency, which will lead to self-growth and self-love and chop away at the stuck feeling. You will feel a sense of freedom, confidence and control in more aspects of your life. By teaching and encouraging you to try different skills in between our sessions and following up with how those skills worked for you in subsequent sessions, you are held accountable, which is a major factor in successful outcomes.</image:caption>

<image:title>Anxiety Therapy - Anxious thoughts can influence every area of your life in negative and unhelpful ways- taking a toll on relationships with others, functioning at home or in the workplace, how you view yourself, and your ability to reach your personal and professional goals.</image:title>
<image:caption>It is amazing how much our thoughts can affect our lives; specifically, how much our thoughts may steer or intensify our mood in negative directions. These thoughts can be so intense at times that they paralyze us and dictate the choices we make in our lives. How often have you thought of leaving that job you are so unhappy with but worry about making the wrong decision? Or about ending an unhealthy relationship but fear you won’t find someone better? What if I told you that you don’t have to remain in this crippled emotional state? While we can’t predict the future, we can learn to pay attention on purpose to how we are feeling, and identify and listen to the current facts to help us make a change/decision and embrace the lessons we learn from the failures and mistakes we all make in life.</image:caption>

<image:title>Home - Anxiety, depression, and trauma have a way of distorting our thoughts so that we are living in a constant state of worry, stuckness, or collapse.</image:title>
<image:caption>Anxiety keeps us looking to (and worrying about) the future, while depression keeps us fixated on (and stuck in) the past. But the truth is, life can only be fully lived in the present moment. I teach skills to help with regulating emotions, which is often the missing piece to being able to stay in the present moment. If you feel skeptical that therapy will work, please know these are skills that can be learned. I see it happen every day. By practicing distress tolerance and grounding skills together, you can develop a sense of mastery and confidence that you can handle anything. This will foster your self-esteem and increase your willingness to solve problems in new ways and take more chances… all things that will help continue to build your self-esteem. Incremental changes bring about the best, and longest-lasting, results. I will meet you where you’re at, will be your biggest cheerleader, and sensitively guide and encourage these changes with you.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Therapy Services - Family Therapy</image:title>
<image:caption>Family therapy is a therapeutic approach used predominantly when I am working with adolescents who could benefit from involving family members in the treatment process. Concurrently, I like to give adolescent clients as much choice and opportunity as possible when involving their parents. Family therapy aims to improve communication between family members, build CBT/DBT skills, and provide a safe space for parent and child to jointly understand one another and connect meaningfully to address any barriers. At times, parent coaching sessions are encouraged with the therapist to build skills for parents to help them connect and support their child, empowering them as caregivers and strengthening the parent-child relationship. Outside resources, such as books and videos, are provided to facilitate the healing and therapeutic goals.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Therapy Services - Individual Therapy</image:title>
<image:caption>Individual therapy can help one deal with many challenges in life such as anger, depression, anxiety, relationship issues, trauma, and everyday life stressors. A core goal of individual therapy is to develop a stronger, more comprehensive, and realistic understanding of yourself. This goal is achieved by increasing awareness of self and others in sessions through explorative talk therapy and CBT/DBT skills development to combat maladaptive thoughts and behaviors. Once this core goal is achieved, you can feel increased control over your life, including your thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and relationships. I provide individual therapy for adolescents aged 15 and older, young adults, and adults. Sessions are offered via telehealth or in person, whatever is most convenient for the patient.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Therapy Services - Couples Therapy</image:title>
<image:caption>There is a cause behind everyone’s behavior. It is difficult enough to learn what drives our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors much less what drives our partners. However, if we can understand our partners more, we can increase our tolerance of them more. According to research, 70% of couples say therapy positively impacts their relationship. In this busy world, partners may ignore major issues causing problems to escalate. Couples counseling can provide a safe space and guidance for partners to have productive discussions with a neutral party. Additionally, it can be a place where emotional wounds, past traumas or trust issues that may negatively impact the relationship, can be safely explored and understood. As with individual and family therapy, CBT and DBT skills are learned and resources are provided to deal effectively with stressors affecting the relationship, strengthen communication, negotiate shared goals, and create more relationship balance.</image:caption>

<image:title>Depression Therapy - Despite the differences in how people feel or show their depression, they all struggle to feel true happiness and a life vision they are hopeful about.</image:title>
<image:caption>I have treated patients who have had little motivation to live. Patients who struggle to shower, and brush their teeth, have no goals for their future, and may not even see a future. I have set goals with patients that have been as incremental as getting out of bed for 15 minutes a day; calling a friend back one time a week; getting in the car and driving to a store; saying one positive self-affirmation 1x a week; showing up to therapy and sharing one thing that happened to them that week. By meeting my patients where they are at, along with their willingness to take those small steps, I have witnessed them hone a sense of mastery over their lives and ultimately identify and work on building a life they once could never imagine.</image:caption>

<image:title>Trauma Therapy - Trauma therapy is also for individuals who have endured several uncontrollable stressful events in their childhood, adolescence or adulthood.</image:title>
<image:caption>This could include growing up in families that exhibit criticizing, ignoring, controlling, and blaming behaviors, to name a few. These behaviors, known as traumatic behavior invalidation, tend to cause internal messages such as “you are bad,” “you are not important,” “you are incompetent,” and “you are a problem.” Research has shown that severe invalidation by caregivers and intimate partners is as or more harmful than sexual or physical violence in terms of its impact on PTSD and other mental health outcomes, such as depression and anxiety. These internal messages leave persistent traces on our minds and emotions and lead to a distorted and inaccurate way we perceive and experience ourselves, others and the world. We may see this in present-day life in our difficulty to establish stable, trusting relationships, experience joy and intimacy, willingness to set professional or personal goals because of the looming sense of inner shame that was created by their traumatic experiences.</image:caption>
